(ANSA) – ROMA, 26 GIU – The Italian Ambassador to Quito, Giovanni Davoli, congratulated the Ecuadorian authorities on the capture of Adolfo Macías Villamar, alias ‘Fito’, one of the country’s most wanted drug traffickers and head of the Los Choneros criminal organisation. “This is an important achievement,” declared the ambassador in a message to Ecuadorian institutions, “which demonstrates the firm determination of the national government in the fight against the mafias that shake the country and threaten international security. “We also pay tribute to the courage and professionalism of the agents who conducted the operation,” Davoli further says. “Italy reiterates its commitment to continue providing all its support to Ecuador, in the hope that all honest citizens can return to live in peace, security and tranquillity,” he concludes, “Together we will succeed.
