(ANSA) – BRASILIA, 29 MAG – The Italian Ambassador to Brazil, Alessandro Cortese, together with the president of the Brazil-Italy Joint Parliamentary Front, MP Luiz Fernando Faria (Psd), and the vice-president of the Italian Chamber of Commerce of São Paulo, Fabio Ongaro, hosted the launch ceremony of the Brazil-Italy Institute, an ‘operational arm’ of the Bilateral Parliamentary Front, which counts almost 300 deputies and senators.
The event, held at the diplomatic headquarters, was attended by parliamentarians, managers and entrepreneurs representing some of the largest Italian companies operating in Brazil.
Ambassador Cortese emphasised the importance of the group in the context of the Brazilian Congress, stating that it is ‘the largest of all joint parliamentary fronts with foreign countries and represents a tool to promote mutual friendship and Italian interests in Brazil’.
In this context – which is reflected in a trade interchange that reached around USD 11 billion in 2024, a 9% increase on the previous year – the Brazil-Italy Institute was created.
The new body will allow “member companies to have privileged access and establish a very solid link with the Front, as well as with Congress”.
The Ambassador recalled that the ‘excellent’ trade and investment ties are part of an ‘intense exchange of political visits’, with President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni arriving in Brazil in 2024, while President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and several members of his government visited Italy.
If the 2024 figures were very positive, the near future could be even better as ‘in the first four months of 2025 this trend is confirmed. And at this rate, 2025 has every chance of becoming a record year for trade between the two countries.”
