America’s Animal Shelter Crisis is Getting Worse

America’s Animal Shelter Crisis is Getting Worse

Rising costs and economic instability are taking a toll on pet owners and animal shelters.

Shelters across the country are reporting an increase in surrenders and intakes with fewer adoptions – only adding to the overcrowding crisis.

To make the situation worse, it is also the peak of “kitten and puppy season”, which means litters of orphaned and sick animals continue to arrive in addition to the surrenders.

This is resulting in already overcrowded and underfunded shelters struggling to feed and care for all the homeless animals.

The dogs and cats are waiting, but the homes aren’t coming. They deserve more than bare concrete and empty bowls.

Help us send 5,000 care packs filled with food, essential supplies like bedding and toys, and vaccinations to shelter pets across the country.

A $25 care package includes: nourishing food, a soft bed to curl up in, toys to ease the anxiety of shelter life, and critical vaccines to keep them healthy until they find their family.

They need our support now more than ever.

Meet just a few of the recipients of care packs and see what a difference it has made in their lives.

Bart

A sick, stray cat was on the euthanasia list at an overcrowded shelter because he was labeled “too feral”. It turns out that Bart, as he was later named, was acting out because he was in pain. Thankfully, he was taken in by a rescue who discovered he is suffering from incurable Pseudomona. He has been on multiple antibiotics and with daily sinus cleaning is starting to feel better.

Due to his health condition, he will remain as a sanctuary cat and get all the care he needs at Dolly’s Cat Sanctuary and Rescue. He enjoys head scratches and the delicious donated food.

Your support has allowed the rescue to use the saved money on food and essentials to provide medical care for Bart. They said, “We would never have been able to afford food and vet bills to help Bart, or other cats like him, without programs like the GOODS program. We absolutely can’t thank the donors to this program enough. Bart brings so much joy and happiness to us and our followers.”

A malnourished white lab was surrendered to a rural shelter when his owners could no longer feed or care for him. He was taken in by another rescue and arrived severely underweight at just 44 pounds and needed many small meals to reintroduce food to his frail body.

Fur Ever Friends Rescue shared, “You could count every rib, vertebrae, hip and tailbone. We got him just in time before he became seriously ill. Malnourished dogs in a shelter are at risk for life threatening illnesses.”

It will take months for him to regain his strength, but he is on the road to recovery thanks to your donations.

Marigold and Storm

Playful puppies found themselves in a shelter in Tennessee due to no fault of their own. An empty kennel with no friends, toys, or blanket is no place for any dog. That is why with your help, care packs were delivered to shelter dogs filled with blankets, toys, and delicious treats and food.

Check out the before and afters.

Squeaker

This scared puppy was found on the side of the road by a military soldier in route to his next post. He had to stop and the puppy instantly cuddled into him. He had no choice but to bring her to a local shelter.

He was almost in tears as he handed her to one of our volunteers,” recalls Shannon Farmz Animal Rescue. The puppy would squeal whenever she was left alone and that is how she got the name “Squeaker”.

She just wants to be near people and is terrified of being left behind again. The rescue shared that she is an intelligent and loving pup who devours the donated food. She is ready to find her special someone.
