An exhibition in San José on Perugino’s life and places

(ANSA) – ROMA, 26 MAG – The Italian Embassy in San Josè in Costa Rica, in collaboration with the Municipality of La Unión, presents the exhibition ‘Il Perugino’, which will open on 27 May and remain open until 27 June. The exhibition traces the life and places where Pietro Vannucci, known as ‘Il Perugino’ (born in Città della Pieve in 1448 and died in 1523) worked. The exhibition seeks to bring the Costa Rican public closer to the rich artistic heritage of Il Perugino, highlighting his contribution to the technical and aesthetic development of Renaissance art.
The simultaneous owner of two very active workshops, in Florence and Perugia, he was for a couple of decades the best known and influential Italian painter of his time, so much so that he was defined by Agostino Chigi as ‘the best master in Italy’. He frequented Verrocchio’s workshop together with Botticelli and Leonardo da Vinci. He is considered one of the greatest exponents of humanism and the greatest representative of 15th century Umbrian painting. He collaborated in the decoration of the Sistine Chapel with Sandro Botticelli.
