(ANSA) – ROME, JUL 18 – Another strong earthquake struck at the Campi Flegrei volcanic caldera on Friday, spooking local residents and causing many to leave their homes and rush outside out of fear.
The magnitude 4.0 took place at 9:14 at a depth of three kilometers and could be distinctly felt in Naples nearby.
It was followed by several smaller tremors.
Local trains services were suspended as a precautionary measure and high-speed and Intercity trains from Naples may experience delays.
The Campi Flegrei area, also known the Phlegrean Fields in English, is currently being affected by bradyseism, or ground uplift, and there have been a series of earthquakes over the last year and a half. (ANSA).
