Key trends shaping the travel industry—such as innovation, enhanced connectivity, and personalized experiences—will take center stage at the 32nd Arabian Travel Market (ATM), set to run from April 28 to May 1, 2025, at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).

With the theme “Global Travel: Developing Tomorrow’s Tourism Through Enhanced Connectivity,” ATM 2025 will feature a comprehensive conference program and exhibition. The event will delve into how advancements in technology and evolving traveler preferences can drive and benefit from improved global connectivity.

A key trend expected to influence the travel industry in 2025 and beyond is the rise of nostalgia travel. From revivals of 1990s movies to early 2000s music tours, the allure of revisiting the past resonates strongly with Millennials.

Many travelers, including those from the UAE, are seeking to relive cherished moments from their youth, whether by recreating memorable trips or fulfilling childhood aspirations. Others are finding ways to bond with their children by sharing nostalgic experiences in familiar destinations, opening up numerous opportunities for innovative travel businesses.

Sports and music tourism is also seeing remarkable growth. By 2032, the sports tourism market is projected to reach $1.33 trillion, while music tourism is anticipated to hit $13.8 billion. Fans are not only traveling more frequently to attend live events featuring their favorite teams and artists but are also allocating higher budgets to these experiences. Regional hubs are already capitalizing on this trend, with Saudi Arabia hosting 80 international sports events in the past four years, attracting 2.5 million international visitors.

Travel within and to the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region is poised for a strong recovery by 2025, with arrivals there and in the Middle East expected to surpass pre-pandemic levels by the end of the year.

This trend has been fueled in part by initiatives like visa-free travel agreements, digital nomad visas, and the global popularity of television series set in Asian countries, such as The White Lotus and Squid Game.

According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), a rising middle class in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region is expected to drive 50% of global air passenger growth through 2043. This momentum is reflected in the 18% year-on-year expansion of the ATM Asia segment on the exhibition floor.

Innovation remains a key highlight of ATM’s Travel Tech exhibition, where leading names like Amadeus, WEGO, and WebBeds are set to return in 2025. This year’s event will explore cutting-edge advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), high-speed Wi-Fi, and virtual reality (VR), all of which are transforming in-flight experiences. These technologies enable airlines and service providers to deliver highly personalized entertainment, shopping, and viewing options, anticipating traveler preferences with unprecedented precision.

Connectivity, however, extends beyond technological innovations. Increasing numbers of travelers are embracing solo journeys, seeking to disconnect from digital fatigue and prioritize genuine face-to-face interactions.

Solo travel is no longer solely about leisure, as digital nomadism continues to rise in popularity post-pandemic. Recent data from Squaremouth indicates that 42% of travel insurance customers plan to embark on solo trips this year—a trend that will be closely examined at ATM 2025.
