Best pizzerias in Italy at Caserta and Verona

(ANSA) – ROME, SEP 22 – Franco Pepe’s “Pepe in grani” in Caiazzo, in the province of Caserta, and Simone Padoan’s “I Tigli” in San Bonifacio, in the province of Verona, are the best pizzerias in Italy with a score of 97/100 in the 13th edition of the Gambero Rosso “Pizzerie d’Italia 2026” guide, presented Monday at the Mostra d’Oltremare in Naples.
The two establishments took first place in the “Tre Spicchi” (plate-based pizzerias) category, ahead of Sasà Martucci – I Masanielli, also in Caserta, and Confine in Milan, with 96.
Overall, the number of pizzerias that have earned the Tre Spicchi award has increased, bringing the total to 100.
For the “Tre Rotelle” (Three Wheels) awards, which recognizes pizza by the slice and takeout, Gabriele Bonci’s “Pizzarium” in Rome remains at the top of the list, with 96 points.
The number of awarded pizzerias in this category has risen from 16 last year to 18, with two new entries, both in Rome: Ruver Teglia Frazionata and Frumentario.
The guide, edited by Pina Sozio, reviews 816 establishments, 133 of which are new, and awards nine special prizes.
“Pizza is joy, culture, and human connection,” said Gambero Rosso editor Lorenzo Ruggeri.
“Not a point of contention, but a universal language that unites. There are more than 35,000 pizzerias in Italy: the future will depend on the ability to connect the product to the local area, seasonality, and sustainability.” (ANSA).
