Irene and her sister-in-law Sophie must deal with their shared grief and an uncertain future as they grapple with one another in the decision to sell their family home.
Director’s Vision for ‘By The Sea’
I made By The Sea to explore grief as both a universal and deeply personal experience, seen through the delicate, shifting bond between two sisters-in-law. I’m drawn to stories that blend beauty and sorrow, using vivid, dreamlike imagery to reflect life’s fragility and the connections that give it meaning. The film’s global collaboration from Vancouver to Denver, Mexico City to Switzerland was essential in creating a work that feels authentic and emotionally resonant. Above all, I hope it offers a heartfelt reminder to cherish the fleeting moments that make life truly alive.
