(ANSA) – ROME, JUL 29 – Premier Giorgia Meloni’s cabinet is set to discuss a bill giving the city of Rome more powers during a meeting on Wednesday, sources said on Tuesday.
The move would see the capital inserted into Article 114 of the Constitution that defines the structures of the Italian Republic – the State, the regions, provinces, metropolitan cities and municipalities.
As a result, the Rome city assembly would have legislative powers and greater control regarding the areas of urban planning, transport, commerce, tourism, culture and the environment, the sources said.
Other spheres would remain in the hands of the Lazio regional government, such as health, waste management and energy. (ANSA).
