(ANSA) – NEW DELHI, 14 GIU – The opening of the new Academy of the European Institute of Design was officially announced in Mumbai. Present at the inauguration ceremony were the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis and the Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan, as well as the Consul General of Italy in Mumbai, Walter Ferrara. Fadnavis praised the initiative of the IED, represented by Academic Director Riccardo Balbo, noting how the initiative enables the IED to bring “Italian elegance and creativity” to India and develop important new collaborations.
In his speech, Ferrara emphasised that “the project consolidates the academic collaboration between Italy and India and recognises our country as a leading player in the global design scene. The arrival of the IED in Mumbai represents an important step in the Italian strategy of supporting innovation and education in India. It is a bridge that unites skills, culture and entrepreneurial vision between our countries”.
“This is not just a school, but a laboratory of the future,” the Consul further said. “We believe in the transformative power of education and in India as an engine of innovation. Together with local institutions, we want to write a new chapter for world design.” The Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) has a legacy of over 60 years of educational excellence in the fields of design, fashion, visual arts and communication. The choice of Mumbai as the new home reflects not only India’s creative potential, but also the growing link between India and the international design and luxury industry. Mumbai confirms itself as an educational hub of excellence, welcoming – the only city in the world – other Italian realities in the sector, such as the Istituto Marangoni, focused on the marriage between design and local craft tradition, and the Domus Academy, a reference point for Indian students aspiring to train in Italy.
