(ANSA) – ROME, SEP 23 – A contribution to the national finances from bigger taxes on banks is absolutely necessary, Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti said Tuesday while saying the government would not bully anyone into paying up.
Regarding bank taxation, Giorgetti said during a livestreamed League party election event in Pesaro, “we’re not going on a crusade; we’ll sit down with them and find a way for them to contribute to the tax relief. I think it’s absolutely necessary.” “If we look at the financial statements of the last five years, we see sectors that have been severely impacted by the crisis on energy costs, and sectors that, perhaps due to their skill, like the banking sector, have made astronomical profits.
“I believe that within a systemic logic, without bullying anyone, it’s right that everyone contributes.” (ANSA).
