(ANSA) – ZAGABRIA, 13 SET – The 2nd edition of the Friendship Run, organized by the Embassy of Italy in Zagreb and the Italian Union, with the support of the Croatian Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the Croatian Academic Sports Federation, was held today on the occasion of the 2nd Day of Italian Sport in the World promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The initiative saw the participation of runners, joggers and walkers, who competed in a 6.3-kilometer route around Lake Jarun.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Trichilo recalled how the Day of Italian Sport in the World, now in its second edition, aims to share with other countries and with the large Italian community abroad, the principles of sporting integrity and respect, discipline and sacrifice, and inclusion of which Italian athletes are bearers. It also consolidates the friendship between Italy and Croatia, two countries that share the universal values of sport, as well as being two nations capable of great sporting achievements. He also recalled the upcoming Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, already promoted during Republic Day last June.
The event was well attended, and in addition to the top finishers, prizes were also presented to the youngest and oldest runner. With this initiative the Embassy continued the promotion of Italian sports in Croatia after the cooperation lent to the holding of the Olympic Day in Zagreb and the Tour of Kutina (Slavonia).
