(ANSA) – BUENOS AIRES, 16 SET – On the occasion of the second edition of the “Day of Italian Sport in the World,” the Italian Embassy in Buenos Aires, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Italy in Buenos Aires and Club Atlético Boca Juniors, organized a special day at the historic Alberto José Armando Stadium, known as La Bombonera.
In the neighborhood of La Boca, about 150 students from Italian schools in Buenos Aires had the opportunity to have a unique experience in one of the most iconic symbols of Argentine soccer. The choice of location was not accidental: the history of Boca Juniors is deeply linked to Italian immigration, so much so that the founders and early members included many Italians and their descendants, making the club a symbol of identity for the Italian-Argentinean community.
Italian Ambassador Fabrizio Lucentini welcomed the students, stressing the importance of the meeting and emphasizing the role of sports in the education of young people. He finally highlighted the historical bond that unites Boca Juniors and Italy, recalling the brotherhood with Genoa CFC.
After the official greetings from the Club authorities and the Consul General of Italy in Buenos Aires, Carmelo Barbera, the young people met two protagonists of Boca Juniors history: Sergio Romero (current Boca Juniors goalkeeper and, among others, former U.C. Sampdoria player) and Enrique Hrabina (former Boca Juniors player of the 1980s and 1990s). With sympathy and humor, both shared anecdotes from their careers, conveying the core values of sports: commitment, dedication, passion, and teamwork.
The students then had the opportunity to ask the players questions, resulting in a dialogue full of enthusiasm and admiration. The day continued with a visit to the Boquense Passion Museum, where students were able to explore rooms dedicated to the club’s history, admire trophies and historical jerseys, and learn more about the great figures who have marked Boca Juniors.
The tour ended with a guided tour of the stadium, allowing students to experience the unique atmosphere of the Bombonera, one of the temples of world soccer. The celebration of the Day of Italian Sport in the World was an important opportunity to strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Italy and Argentina, united also through sport and its universal values.
