(ANSA) – ROME, AUG 12 – Premier Giorgia Meloni on Monday night voiced to Palestinian National Authority President Mahmoud Abbas Italy’s “deep concern” over Israel’s military escalation in aiming to occupy Gaza City and said the humanitarian situation on the Strip was “unjustifiable and unacceptable”.
Meloni “had a telephone conversation this afternoon with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who expressed his sincere appreciation for Italy’s—in his words, “fundamental”—role in the humanitarian support provided thus far and for the positions it has taken”, a statement from her office at Palazzo Chigi said, emphasizing that “the conversation particularly allowed Meloni to share the deep concern over recent Israeli decisions, which appear to be leading to further military escalation, and to reiterate that the humanitarian situation in Gaza is unjustifiable and unacceptable.” (ANSA).
