Depero exhibition opened at the Italian Embassy in Washington

(ANSA) – WASHINGTON, 10 SET – The ambassador of Italy to the United States, Marco Peronaci, opened last night “Depero. Graphics: Between Italy and the United States,” an exhibition dedicated to Italian futurist Fortunato Depero and to be hosted at the Italian Embassy in Washington until Jan. 30, 2026. Conceived by Maurizio Scudiero, curator of the Depero Archive, the exhibition “aims to present, through Depero’s work, an image of Italy as an inexhaustible forge of art and culture, a creative laboratory where tradition and innovation have always met,” Ambassador Peronaci commented. “Depero was also a bridge between Italy and the United States: this exhibition well underscores the deep intertwining that has fueled the mutual contamination and cultural dialogue between our countries in the past century and beyond,” he added. Joining Peronaci at his first public event since presenting credentials to President Donald Trump was Undersecretary of State for Public Diplomacy Darren Beattie, who emphasized the U.S. administration’s interest in further strengthening ties between Italy and the United States in the cultural sphere. With nearly fifty works including drawings, collages and paintings, the exhibition highlights Depero’s pioneering role in combining art, design and communication. The exhibition also highlights his extraordinary connection with the United States: during his stay in New York between 1928 and 1930, Depero created famous covers for Vanity Fair and The New Yorker, collaborated with advertising agencies and designers, and brought Futurism to the American public. It will be possible to visit the exhibition at the embassy by signing up for guided tours to be organized by the Italian Cultural Institute in Washington. “Depero. Graphics: Between Italy and the United States” is produced by StArt Management and supported by Campari, Depero’s historic partner.
