Diane Keaton Revealed If She Regretted Never Getting Married, Was Told She’ll ‘Make A Good Wife’

Annie Hall fame, Diane Keaton died on October 11, 2025, leaving her friends, family and fans heartbroken. She was 79 years old and was suffering from several health issues. The cause of her death has not been publicly disclosed, but reports of Diane Keaton’s death indicate that her health declined very suddenly in her final months. Before this sudden decline, Keaton had spoken publicly about her past health issues, including skin cancer and an eating disorder. But it isn’t clear whether they led to her demise. She is survived by her two kids, but she was never married. She once shared the reason for the same.

Why Diane Keaton never got married despite being in several high-profile relationships?

Diane Keaton never married and consistently expressed that she was glad she chose to remain single during a 2019 interview with PEOPLE. She described herself as an ‘oddball’ and cited the reasons that made her unfit for a spousal relationship. The Godfather star dated her industry mates, Woody Allen, Warren Beatty, and Al Pacino, but none of them culminated in marriage. Diane considered herself ‘strange’ and felt that her age and experience didn’t make her wise enough to take the responsibilities that come with marriage. Stating that she might be the only woman of her age who opted for singlehood all her life, she told PEOPLE:

“Today I was thinking about this (marriage)… I’m 73 and I think I’m the only one in my generation and maybe before who has been a single woman all her life.”
