At Battery Power, we bring you all of the roster moves as soon as we can. That’s true even when there’s at least one change a day for three or four months. So we make sure you know who is on the roster. Often times that takes the focus away from the star players on the roster here and that’s something I should try to correct. But many of the Saturday football teams have imported more than 40 players year-to-year in addition to the normal-ish attrition of players graduating. My alma mater is a Group of Six conference member which added 41 transfer players and 8 freshmen. Sure, I can memorize 49 names. But why would I invest the time in kids that will be gone next year?
But if you like rooting for laundry, there’s really never a better time to do it. The teams in the top leagues are more evenly matched in decades. It likely creates thinner rosters, but they’re more equal. The order at the top is being rewritten. But make no mistake, it’s professional football. And lot of the hysterics around Lane Kiffin would cease if we got used to that idea. It will remake itself over the next ten years, hopefully for the better.
