There’s never a dull moment on Doc.
So, of course, “Saints and Sinners” was no exception. If you want our full thoughts on the hour, and you want to join the discussion we have in the comment section, check out our Doc Season 2 Episode 6 Review.
For the breakdown of what happened during the hour, proceed with our scene-by-scene recap below!

A priest is leaving the chapel and heading to the hospital to speak with a couple. The priest is helping them work through some news when the wife notices that he’s bleeding from his eyes. Bloody tears! Creepy.
Amy heads to the place where she recalls having the memory of the man and the snow globe. She’s there waiting to see if something comes to her again when Gina calls her. Apparently, it’s been multiple times over the week that Amy has been there.
Katie called Gina and expressed concern about Amy and this snow globe mystery. Gina shares that Katie knows what’s behind the snow globe and has just kept this memory to herself, which leaves Amy wondering why Katie isn’t communicating with her.
Gina shares that Katie is worried Amy is slipping into old habits with her obsession with this. Amy reassures Gina that she isn’t. But she wants to be able to speak to Katie about these things directly.
Jake wakes up in his patient’s sister’s hotel room. She’s inviting him out to see a band with her later that evening, and he agrees to it after their supposed one-night stand.

Amy texts Katie and wants to talk, but Katie says she’s at her father’s for the weekend.
Hannah walks into the locker room while she’s texting, and Amy says she’s having daughter issues, but she gets a flash again when she sees Hannah and sees Ryan’s face.
Sonya is in charge for the day, and TJ returns to work. She mentions that a violent offender is coming into the hospital with issues. TJ offers to take him on since both his parents are cops.
Amy treats the priest. She shares that all of the priest’s organs are under fire right now. He has an advanced disease. He takes it well enough, even though she warns him that the treatment may feel worse than the disease.
TJ treats Malcolm, the inmate who is coughing up blood, and apparently pooping it out, too. He thinks one of the other inmates spiked his tray.
Jake arrives at work late, and he and Sonya discuss her potential role as chief resident and her prospects. Still, she looks visibly annoyed when his eyes fall on Amy at the nurse’s station. When will we be free of Sonya’s pining and jealousy?

Amy gives Jake the cold shoulder when he greets her, noting the lack of professionalism in his behavior, given that he is dating a patient’s sister. And notes how fast it is.
Jake tries to access a patient file and takes it to Michael, who informs him that UNOS has denied them access and has apparently cut ties with them. It’s a formal review with Michael with the oversight committee.
Jake warns Michael that during that meeting, they’re going to make him the fall guy.
In a flashback, we see Chaplain O’Leary at Danny’s funeral. He commends Amy for how well she spoke during her speech and offers his support and help for her if she needs it when she returns to work. She expresses genuine gratitude.
Amy calls Katie again and finally reaches her. She wants Katie to stop by the hospital after class so they can have a proper talk.
Charlie, Hannah’s brother, shows up at the hospital and greets her, embarrassing her in her workplace. Apparently, she reached out to him four days prior, and he was just getting back to him. Hannah runs down everything she knows about Amy being the reason the hospital forced Ryan out.

She wants Charlie to look into things, and he tells her that he needs to investigate Amy’s computer. She wonders what she can do to get into them.
O’Leary and Amy talk. He mentions how much he wanted to help her in her darkest days. She finds that he’s bleeding into his lungs.
TJ gets tests back that show that someone poisoned Malcom with liquid toilet bowl cleaner. Eww! However, the person who runs the tests claims that there’s no way anyone could have put that in Malcolm’s food or drink without him tasting it. So he had to have done it to himself.
Sonya instantly wants to involve the authorities, but TJ intends to speak with Malcolm first and then consult Gina for a psychological evaluation. He wants to treat Malcolm like any other patient. She wants to accompany him and flat-out asks Malcolm why he drank toilet bowl cleaner.
Malcolm admits that he was trying to get to Westside because his mother is there and has cancer, and he wanted a chance to see her and make things right with her before she died.
We flash back to seven years ago, when Amy spoke with O’Leary in the chapel. She finds peace there with him and talks to him about how she doesn’t know what she can give to her daughter. Apparently, Katie didn’t go to Danny’s funeral. She couldn’t bring herself to go, and Amy didn’t want to force her.

Amy speaks about how she can’t ever go back to Danny’s grave.
Katie shows up at the hospital during a free period to “get the talk over with,” and she lays it all out there that she was upset, lost her brother, her mother moved out, Amy gave her a snowglobe thinking everything would be fine, and she wasn’t. She no longer wants to discuss things. But Amy wants a proper conversation and says they’ll speak again after work.
Sonya and TJ speak to the doctor about Malcolm’s mother, and they want to give him a shot to talk to his mother.
Amy checks in with O’Leary. His kidneys are shutting down, and she’s doubting whether she’s doing the best thing. He reassures her and has complete faith in her, speaking positivity into her.
Sonya and TJ speak to Mrs. Ellison and tell her that Malcolm is there and wants to talk to her. They explain what happened. They offer to arrange a meeting with him, and say he wants to apologize, but she says that the last thing she wants to do is see him again.
TJ pushes, but Sonya stops him. She reminds him that when a woman says “no,” he needs to respect that, especially since he doesn’t know what Malcolm may have done to his mother.

Sonya checks in with Amy and is annoyed by some of the measures she’s already taken. They bicker a bit about O’Leary’s treatment plan. Sonya’s authoritative demeanor, which comes across as bitchy and mean to everyone, is ironic, given all the smoke she has for Amy for being the same way.
Hannah tries to use all of this as a way to sneak a peek at Amy’s password code to access her account, but Sonya is laying into Hannah as well.
The committee also brings Gina in to speak with her about the UNOS situation. They lay into everyone, and Gina recognizes it for what it is: a witch hunt. Michael knows they need a Fall Guy, so he tells them that they’ll have his resignation by the end of the day.
In the flashback, Amy calls in O’Leary, who thinks it’s for her and looks forward to speaking to her again, but she shuts him down like she did everyone else and sends him in to see a patient.
O’Leary has another crisis before they’re able to stabilize him, but she tells him she doesn’t know how much more his body can take.
Sonya and TJ speak to Malcolm. TJ tries to lie and smooth things over, but Sonya cuts to the chase and tells Malcolm the truth and demands to know what he did to his mother. He kicks them out of the room.

Michael types his letter of resignation, while Gina and Jake talk about how he doesn’t deserve to lose his job. Jake feels guilty because he knows that when he showed up to retrieve the heart, he told them to call Michael and forced Michael’s hand in putting things in writing.
He feels just as culpable.
Amy opens up and talks to O’Leary. He tells her about how Katie didn’t go to Danny’s grave and didn’t get to mourn her brother, and how Amy struggled, too. He gives her some advice and comforts her.
In the flashback, O’Leary tells Amy that he has been praying for her, but she tells him to save his prayers for someone else.
Amy, in the present, figures out a Hail Mary to save O’Leary and runs it past Sonya. She heads to her computer to input something and then walks away, leaving Hannah the time to copy her and transfer her files and emails to a flash drive.
They are getting ready to transfer Malcolm to prison when Sonya and TJ tell him that his mother has passed away. He tells them his story. He started running with the local gang as a teenager, but he never brought that life home with him, thanks to his mother and sister. But when he took his little sister out one night, someone tried to kill him and killed his sister instead.

He has survivor’s guilt, and his mother blamed him for losing her daughter. Sonya gives him a pep talk.
O’Leary takes a turn for the better, and Amy tells him.
Jake tells Amy what happened with the meeting and Michael. And he doesn’t want Michael to take the hit. He puts paperwork in place to support his actions. He runs that by Amy, that he faked the test.
Jake gives the test to the board head, and it helps keep Michael out of trouble. Michael pulls Jake aside later to express gratitude and tells him that they have regained their certification.
Amy returns home and has a much-needed conversation with Katie about actually confronting their fears and feelings. She doesn’t want Katie to have picked up any bad habits from her. And she asks Katie to go to Danny’s grave with her. They do, and it’s a beautiful moment of grief and release for both of them.
Jake is out on his date with his patient’s sister, but when Amy texts him to tell him thanks for what he did for Michael, he tells his date he’s on call and leaves.
We know it’s not cool to ask for help, but here we are.
