(ANSA) – ROMA, 17 SET – The Ambassador of Italy to Bulgaria, Marcello Apicella, and the Director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Sofia, Maria Mazza, attended the press conference presenting the Sofia International Film Festival ‘Cinelibri,’ one of the country’s leading film events. The Ambassador presented the 2nd edition of Italian Screens, an exhibition promoting Italian cinema abroad supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Ministry of Culture and Cinecittà.
The Ambassador emphasized the enthusiasm with which Italy is participating in the 11th edition of Cinelibri, which this year will include as many as eight Italian films, testifying to the vitality of contemporary Italian cinema, and the fascination it continues to exert around the world.
Among the films scheduled at Cinelibri 2025: ‘Fuori,’ by Mario Martone, with the celebrated director who will travel to Sofia on Oct. 15, along with Italian Screens director Roberto Stabile, to personally inaugurate the festival; ‘Follemente,’ by Paolo Genovese; ‘La gioia,’ by Nicolangelo Gelormini; ‘Three Bowls,’ by Isabel Coixet; ‘La grazia’ and ‘La grande bellezza,’ by Paolo Sorrentino; ‘Gianni Versace, l’imperatore dei sogni,’ by Mimmo Calopresti; and ‘Orfeo,’ by Virgilio Villoresi.
The Ambassador also announced the participation of two other special guests at this year’s Festival: actor Toni Servillo and costume designer Daniela Ciancio. Servillo stars in Paolo Sorrentino’s film La grazia, which will be presented Oct. 24 at the National Palace of Culture in Sofia. Already starring in masterpieces such as La grande bellezza and Il Divo, he won the Coppa Volpi at the 2025 Venice Film Festival in recognition of an extraordinary career marked by commitment, sophistication and talent. Daniela Ciancio, a celebrated film and theater costume designer, has been instrumental in defining the visual identity of many successful works, such as Paolo Sorrentino’s La grande bellezza and Marco Risi’s Maradona, la mano de Dios. Ciancio will hold a masterclass as part of the Festival’s Industry Days section.
“This representation not only honors our country,” the Ambassador stressed, “but also tells the world about the vitality, complexity, craftsmanship and international scope of contemporary Italian cinema.
