(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 13 – EU values ;;don’t allow moral compromises, President Sergio Mattarella said in accepting an honorary degree at the university of Coimbra in Portugal at the start of a two-day visit to the Iberian country.
Universities stimulate “knowledge and discussion. I am convinced that constructive dialogue, a sense of the common good, deontological ethics, as well as a willingness to innovate and contribute to the accumulation of productive social capital, derive from this. These are essential prerequisites for economic growth in advanced states of law, such as ours. They are also manifestations of those fundamental values ;;that we share and that have forged the European identity and do not allow moral compromises”, said Mattarella, speaking at the University of Coimbra, the country’s oldest.
