The early 2000s were an interesting time for movies. On one hand, the multi-installment franchise system was rising with the likes of Harry Potter and The Hunger Games, while superhero movies were on the rise with Robert Downey Jr’.s Iron Man franchise. And somewhere in between, high-concept, dense, dialogue-heavy mystery thrillers aimed at the adult audience were still making money.
