(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 6 – Loenzo Musetti was almost in tears after retiring hurt Friday from the French Open semi-final against Spanish ace Carlos Alcaraz, who said “it is bad to win this way”.
The 23-year-old from Carrara almost broke down while his 22-year-old opponent, the defending champion and four-time slam winner from Spain, immediately had a thought for him when he abandoned play with a leg issue while 2-0 down in the fourth set having lost the third to love after winning the first and losing the second in a tie-break.
“Winning like this is not pleasant,” said the two-time Wimbledon and one-time US Open winner.
“Musetti had a fantastic clay season, one of the few in the last 30 years to have reached the semifinals in all the important tournaments.
” I wish him the best and that he can return as quickly as possible and start playing again”. (ANSA).
