| The bond between the British Olympic gold medalist, Dylan Fletcher, and the rising Hong Kong youngster, Nicolai Jacobsen, transcends the typical athlete-mentor dynamic. Their partnership is built on shared knowledge, mutual learning, and a deep respect for each other’s skills.
Dylan Fletcher´s resume is formidable: an Olympic gold medal in the 49er class (Tokyo 2020), a 49er World Championship in 2017, a Moth World Championship in 2022 and co-helmsman of INEOS Britannia in the 2024 America´s Cup. Speaking to the strength of his collaboration with Nicolai, Fletcher shared “Training with Nicolai has been incredibly rewarding. His dedication and natural talent are remarkable, and we’ve both pushed each other to new heights. While we are friends off the water, when the starting gun goes, it’s every sailor for themselves.”
Nicolai Jacobsen, a prodigious talent representing the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, has rapidly ascended the ranks of foiling, securing the Youth World Champion title in 2021, a third-place finish at Foiling Week in 2021, and victory at the International Moth European Championship in 2024. “Dylan has been an incredible mentor and training partner,” Nicolai stated. “I’ve learned so much from him. It’s an honour to train alongside someone of his caliber, and now, to compete against him for the world championship is an exciting challenge.“
