Gran Canaria GWA Wingfoil World Cup 2026: FreeFly-Slalom Kicks Off the Season
The Gran Canaria GWA Wingfoil World Cup 2026 marked the start of the first FreeFly-Slalom competition of the 2026 season, with 16 men and 13 women competing in powerful winds of more than 30 knots over two days.
With Bastien Escofet and Nia Suardiaz both looking to defend their 2025 World Titles, a strong field of challengers was ready to make them work for it
The men’s competition delivered a dramatic finish.Tom Pansard (FRA) entered the Super Final with an early advantage, but an early start in the opening race and a medical issue that prevented him from competing in the second race opened the door for his rivals. Francesco Cappuzzo (ITA) and Bastien Escofet (FRA) each claimed a race win, leaving all three athletes tied with one “bullet” apiece. In the decisive third race, Cappuzzo held his nerve to secure the victory and claim the overall event win.
In the women’s event, Nia Suardiaz (ESP) carried her advantage into the Super Final and sealed the title with another commanding performance, finishing ahead of Kylie Belloeuvre (FRA) and Enoha Laurent (FRA).
