Great Britain win 2026 Coupe de la Jeunesse

Great Britain had an outstanding weekend’s racing at the 2026 Coupe de la Jeunesse. Of the 46 athletes who travelled to Lucerne, Switzerland, 43 returned with medals.

Seven of the crews; the Men’s Eight, Women’s Eight, Men’s Four, Women’s Four, Men’s Pair, Men’s Double Scull, and the Men’s Single Scull won on both Saturday and Sunday, returning home with two gold medals.

Running annually since 1985, when it was held in Candia, Italy, the Coupe de la Jeunesse is a competition organised by World Rowing which brings together Under 19 athletes from 16 European Nations who are not participating in the World Rowing U19 Championships in the same year.

The event sees athletes race over two days. Heats and finals will all take place on Saturday, before repeating the format on Sunday, meaning crews can return home with two medals.

“I’m incredibly proud of the way this Coupe team represented the GB Rowing Team throughout their preparation and across the competition,” said u19 Programme Manager Dan Cooper.

“The results speak for themselves, but to deliver such consistent performances over both days showed real maturity and resilience in an international racing environment.

“A huge thank you goes to our coaches, support staff, clubs, schools and families for everything they have done to support these athletes. I’d also like to recognise the Coupe Team Manager Neil Double and Coupe Lead Coach Tristan MayglothlingCoupe. Their leadership, professionalism and energy created an environment where both the coaches and athletes could thrive and perform at their best.

“The Coupe de la Jeunesse is a key step on the Olympic pathway, giving athletes invaluable international experience that will help them as they continue their rowing careers. With many athletes returning to the U19 programme next year and others moving into senior rowing, I’m excited to see where this experience takes them next.”
