The provision for granting Exploration Licenses for critical and deep-seated minerals through auctions was introduced in the MMDR Act amendment in 2023. The minister also informed that Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, and Assam will join the mineral auction regime, expanding the total number of participating states to 17.
