(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 21 – Italy has summoned the Israeli ambassador to Rome not only over an incident where the Israeli army fired warning shots against diplomats at Jenin in the West Bank but also over the “dramatic” situation in Gaza, sources said after Premier Giorgia Meloni discussed the cases with Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.
Meloni, according to reports, spoke on the phone today with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Tajani to agree on summoning the Israeli ambassador to Italy to the Farnesina.
A move, it was explained, evaluated not only in light of today’s episode near the Jenin refugee camp involving foreign diplomats, including the Italian vice consul in Jerusalem, but also in the broader context of the dramatic situation in the Gaza Strip.
