(ANSA) – ROMA, 22 MAG – Italy’s Ambassador to Harare, Zimbabwe, Umberto Malnati, attended the launch of two cross-border initiatives on Miombo forests and agricultural trade in Mozambique and Zimbabwe. These projects, supported by funding from the Italian Government through the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), and technical assistance and coordination from FAO, promote climate resilience and regional cooperation. Together, the initiatives address two interconnected priorities: the restoration and sustainable management of Miombo’s forests and the promotion of inclusive economic growth through structured cross-border agricultural trade. With a total budget of almost EUR 9 million, they aim to strengthen climate resilience, support sustainable livelihoods and deepen regional integration in Southern Africa.
“Italy’s engagement in this region is guided by the Mattei Plan for Africa, which promotes a renewed model of cooperation based on mutual respect and local empowerment. Mozambique and Zimbabwe are strategic partners in advancing sustainable economic growth and human development,” said Ambassador Umberto Malnati.
