(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 30 – Demographic factors threaten to limit Italy’s growth potential and migrants can help alleviate the situation, Bank of Italy Governor Fabio Panetta said on Friday in his ‘Concluding Remarks’ as he presented the central bank’s Annual Report for 2025.
“The ageing of the population and the low birth rate are bound to profoundly affect the growth potential of the Italian economy,” Panetta said.
“In order to permanently expand the workforce it is necessary to create attractive employment opportunities for the many Italians leaving the country in search of better prospects”.
He said “legal immigration can make a significant contribution” especially in the construction and tourism sectors. (ANSA).
