(ANSA) – ROME, AUG 13 – Pope Leo XIV said Wednesday on Friday’s Ukraine war summit between United States President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska that an agreement must be reached to end the violence.
“I always hope for a ceasefire, for the violence to cease, and for them to reach an agreement. Why the war after so long? What is the purpose?” Leo said in response to a question from ANSA upon his arrival at Castel Gandolfo about what he expects from the August 15 summit.
Leo is to spend some time away from the Rome summer heat in the hilltown south of the capital that is the traditional papal summer retreat but which his predecessor Francis turned into a museum. (ANSA).
