Lufthansa Streamlines Airport Journeys With New City-Ticket Feature For Express Rail Travelers

Lufthansa enhances travel convenience by integrating Deutsche Bahn’s City-Ticket into its Express Rail service, offering seamless local transport to and from airports.

Lufthansa Simplifies Travel with City-Ticket Integration into Express Rail Service

Lufthansa has taken a significant step in enhancing the travel experience by integrating Deutsche Bahn’s (DB) City-Ticket into its Lufthansa Express Rail service. This innovation allows passengers to conveniently use local public transport before and after their train journey to the airport, making the entire travel process more seamless.

Expanded Travel Options Across Germany

With this new service, Lufthansa boarding passes can now be used for bus, tram, subway, and suburban railway travel to and from the Express Rail stations. The integration, which will apply to all Lufthansa Express Rail destinations, except Siegburg and Basel, provides passengers in 26 German cities with the ability to easily reach their departure or arrival stations using local transport. The City-Ticket is valid for one trip in each direction, on the day of travel, between the local station and the Express Rail station.

Rising Demand for Lufthansa Express Rail

The popularity of Lufthansa Express Rail has steadily increased over the years. In 2024, around 500,000 passengers used the service to connect with Frankfurt Airport. By incorporating the City-Ticket, Lufthansa and DB continue to improve their intermodal offerings, providing even greater convenience to travelers.

A Long-Standing Partnership for Seamless Travel

Lufthansa Express Rail is the result of a successful 20-year partnership between Lufthansa and Deutsche Bahn. Travelers can now book a combined ticket for both train and flight, making it easier to use the train as a shuttle to Frankfurt Airport from 28 cities across Germany. Lufthansa Express Rail connects more than twice the number of German cities that Lufthansa serves by air, offering passengers over 240 daily ICE connections with Lufthansa flight numbers (codeshare).

This collaboration continues to streamline travel, helping passengers enjoy a more convenient and efficient journey from city to airport.
