Ricky Martin is reportedly safe after a concertgoer disrupted his show in Europe on Thursday by discharging tear gas near the stage.
Ricky Martin’s publicist reports that he is “safe” after a concertgoer disrupted his European show on Thursday by discharging tear gas near the stage. The star’s publicist, Róndine Alcalá, shared a statement on Instagram in both Spanish and English explaining that Martin was kicking off the European leg of his tour in Montenegro when “an individual discharged tear gas toward the stage.”
This caused an “abrupt interruption of the show as audience members moved away from the area and received assistance.” The 54-year-old Martin and his team immediately exited the stage as a “precautionary measure,” as security personnel and local authorities “worked to contain the situation and ensure the safety of those in attendance.”
Members of Martin’s team advised against continuing the performance, but Alcalá said the star opted to resume the show “in order to fulfill his commitment to fans.” Authorities confirmed that “the situation was under control and that attendees could safely return.”
Alcalá also confirmed that the Ricky Martin Live Tour will continue as scheduled, with upcoming shows across Europe, as well as more international dates.
“Ricky Martin and his team are safe and grateful for the support and concern received following tonight’s events in Montenegro,” Alcalá concluded.
Fans expressed their concern for the Puerto Rican star and shared their experiences at the show.
“Such sad news,” wrote one fan. “Many thanks to Ricky Martin and their team for continuing the show despite everything. Thank you [Alcalá] for the information.”
“We were there,” commented another. “Thanks Ricky and his team for everything; they are all professionals. […] We very [much] enjoyed the concert.”
“My heart was beating so fast in fear for all. Ricky was brave to continue [the] show, but I know he only did it knowing all [the] team & fans were ok & safe,” shared a third fan.
Ricky Martin has yet to address the incident personally.
His tour will hit countries across Europe throughout the summer, including Croatia, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, and Turkey. He also has an upcoming appearance at the Ravinia Festival in Illinois and in Norfolk, UK, in August.
