(ANSA) – ROME, AUG 18 – A 57-year-old Sardinian man died in an ambulance after being tasered outside an Olbia music festival on Saturday night.
The man, Gianpaolo Demartis, had attacked several people outside the venue, the Red Valley Festival, and continued to struggle with police trying to calm him down before he was tasered and suffered a cardiac arrest.
Demartis had a record for pushing drugs.
Sardinia’s ombudswoman for detained persons, Irene Testa, said Monday: “Another death by taser. It’s not the first time it’s happened.
A few months ago, a 30-year-old man was killed. Electric shocks are used to control malaise, causing devastating physical and psychological effects. Sometimes death. Can the use of legalized torture instruments still be allowed?” (ANSA).
