(ANSA) – ROME, MAR 24 – President Sergio Mattarella on Monday sent his well wishes to Pope Francis who returned to the Vatican Sunday after a five-week battle in hospital against double pneumonia that became the most serious health crisis of his 12-year papacy.
“We are happy for the return home at the Vatican of the pope, of Francis, renewing wishes for a full recovery”, Mattarella said at the Village “Agricoltura è” during an event to mark the anniversary of the signature of the Treaty of Rome.
The 88-year-old Argentine pontiff will now take over two months to convalesce after a major scare that twice led doctors to fear for his life. (ANSA).
