Meloni govt becomes 4th longest in history

(ANSA) – ROME, AUG 11 – Giorgia Meloni’s government on Tuesday becomes the fourth longest in the history of the Italian republic at 1,024 days since its inception on October 22, 2022.
That means it has lasted longer than the previous fourth-placed executive, Matteo Renzi’s February 22 2014-December 12 2016 government.
The team led by Italy’s first woman premier is now seeking to surpass Bettino Craxi’s first government (August 4 1983-August 1 1986), Silvio Berlusconi’s fourth government (May 8 2008-November 16 2011), and Berlusconi’s second executive, which lasted a record 1,412 days from June 11 2001 to April 23 2005.
But Meloni has her sights firmly set on leading the only administration to last for the full five-year term of office, in October 2027.
If all goes as currently foreseen the premier will meanwhile become the longest serving Italian prime minister, beating Berlusconi, on September 4 next year. (ANSA).
