(ANSA) – ROME, SEP 25 – Democratic Party (PD) leader Elly Schlein on Thursday accused Premier Giorgia Meloni of playing the victim after she said the Global Sumud Flotilla was irresponsible and an attempt to cause problems for the government.
“So the Flotilla is an act of spite to you and to the government? Stop being a megalomaniac,” Schlein said in the Lower House after Defence Minister Guido Crosetto reported on this week’s attack on the flotilla.
“There are delegations from 44 different countries in the Flotilla.” The leader of the centre-left group then accused Meloni of insulting the opposition, of “playing the victim for three years” and of “dividing the nation”.
She also called out the government for failing to recognise the State of Palestine, saying “what are you waiting for?”.
The premier has said the Italy will recognise Palestine only if the Israeli hostages are released and Hamas is removed from Gaza. (ANSA).
