(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 12 – Premier Giorgia Meloni on Thursday tapped the former leader of Italy’s second-biggest and former Socialist trade union federation CISL, Luigi Sbarra, as premiership undersecretary with the brief for the South of Italy.
Former European Affairs, Territorial Cohesion and National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) minister Raffaele Fitto’s portfolio for the south was not passed to his replacement Tommaso Foti but was picked up instead by Meloni herself, who has now handed it on to Sbarra, who left the CISL leadership having served his term earlier this year.
Sbarra, whose appointment must be approved by President Sergio Mattarella, enters the cabinet as an independent. (ANSA).
