Never asked transfer of UniCredit-BPM jurisdiction – Chigi

(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 19 – Sources from Palazzo Chigi said Thursday they ‘categorically deny’ what was reported by the newspaper La Stampa online, according to which the premier’s office allegedly requested the transfer of jurisdiction over the UniCredit-Bpm takeover operation from the European Antitrust Authority to the Italian one.
The sources specified ‘that Palazzo Chigi has never advanced nor intended to advance such a request, nor could it have done so, taking into account the areas of competence of the government and that of an independent authority such as the AGCM’. ‘The terms of the question – continued the sources from the premier’s office – are clearly illustrated by the same press release from the European Commission which unequivocally defines the institutional path’.
