New guide ‘Growth Diplomacy: destination Norway’

(ANSA) – OSLO, 11 SET – As part of the economic diplomacy activities promoted by the Farnesina under the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani, the first edition of the guide entitled “Growth Diplomacy: Destination Norway” has just been published by the Embassy of Italy in Oslo. The tool aims to strengthen the Italian economic presence in Norway, facilitating the access of Italian companies and investors to the local market and promoting new strategic partnerships.
A country that is open to trade with the rest of the world and has an efficient legal system that ensures adequate protection of commercial and intellectual rights, Norway continues to offer a dynamic environment for investment and business opportunities. The country remains one of the world’s largest producers of oil and natural gas, but is also developing major investments in clean energy and green transition (offshore wind, CCS technologies), and aspires to create a critical raw materials industry at the global forefront of environmental sustainability.
In this context, economic-commercial relations between Italy and Norway are solid and constantly developing. Although numerically limited, the Italian presence in the country is of strategic value as it presides over some of the key sectors of the local economy, such as energy, shipbuilding and construction. Trade, for its part, remains a key component of our bilateral relations: Norway is our fifth-largest supplier of natural gas, while Italian exports, widely diversified at the sectoral level, have been on a steady growth trajectory for years. Also of great strategic importance are the relations between the two countries on innovation, science and technology, which are likely to produce concrete implications for the manufacturing sector as well, particularly in areas such as scientific research in the Arctic and aerospace.
On the opportunities front for Italian companies and investors, the guide includes insights into Norwegian trade union, tax and customs regulations, the local trade fair system, as well as the steps needed to establish a business in the country. Specific analyses are also offered on strategic sectors such as oil & gas, renewable energy and infrastructure/construction, as well as on the consumer goods sector, particularly food, alcoholic beverages, sports/outdoor clothing and cosmetics.
According to the Ambassador of Italy to Norway and Iceland, Stefano Nicoletti, “Norway, despite the relatively limited size of its market, continues to offer significant business and investment opportunities for our economic and production system. The guide, in this sense, is intended to provide a comprehensive, yet practical and easy-to-read overview that complements the series of e-books published by the Embassy and dedicated to various aspects of the Norwegian economic system. It is an editorial project that is enriched each year with new issues and includes the periodic updating of the guides already put online, where all readers interested in the Norwegian market will, I believe, be able to find information and directions useful for the development of their activities in this country.” The guide “Growth Diplomacy: Destination Norway” is available on the website of the Italian Embassy in Oslo and on the InfoMercatiEsteri platform.
