New Italian Consulate building in Porto Alegre purchased

(ANSA) – PORTO ALEGRE, 11 MAR – The contract to purchase the new headquarters of the Consulate General of Italy in Porto Alegre was officially signed. The deed was signed today by Consul Valerio Caruso, marking a fundamental step towards strengthening the Italian presence in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul.
The Ambassador of Italy in Brazil, Alessandro Cortese, expressed great satisfaction: ‘the purchase of the new Consulate General’s headquarters is an important milestone that rewards our community in Rio Grande do Sul with a Consulate that lives up to its more than one hundred years of history.
“This is an initiative that, in addition to improving consular services, sends a strong signal for the relaunch of relations between Italy and Brazil, and Rio Grande do Sul in particular, this very year, when we celebrate the 150th anniversary of Italian immigration to this State,” Ambassador Cortese added.
The new headquarters will provide more space, more modern and functional, to better meet the needs of the large Italian community present in Rio Grande do Sul, while strengthening cultural and economic relations between Italy and the region.
