Psychedelic drugs are a part of Masha’s wellness routine on Nine Perfect Strangers, and many of her guests this time knew that.
No one is ever prepared for a vivid trip, though, and Martin had to deal with multiple guests on Nine Perfect Strangers Season 2 Episode 3 since Masha chose to stay behind and entertain David.
That was way too much responsibility for one person. I’m beginning to understand why he resents Masha and doesn’t put up with her as much as her former employees did.
Nine Perfect Strangers Season 2 significantly differs from the first season because it’s more serious.
While the first season had some serious topics, as some guests dealt with grief and anxiety, this time, it seems like almost every character has suffered a trauma, and we’re starting to unpack it.
Agnes Struggled With Forgiveness, Showing She Was the MVP of Nine Perfect Strangers Season 2 Episode 3
This was Agnes’s (Dolly de Leon’s) chance to shine. The series hinted that Agnes struggled with her faith in the season premiere, but her memories came flooding back on those drugs.
That’s often how it works on Nine Perfect Strangers, as they deal with one backstory weekly, and Agnes had one of the strongest.
She worked as a nurse while she was a nun and felt she had failed a woman who died during a miscarriage.
It often seems callous when the church preaches that it’s God’s will or suggests praying for someone’s soul, so I understand why Agnes struggled with that.
She served God, but she just watched an innocent woman die. She blamed herself and knew not even forgiveness would bring them back.
We sometimes struggle with extreme regret, knowing we can’t change things. It’s a heavy burden.
While we don’t usually physically harm ourselves, psychedelics will do that, and Agnes was under duress.
I thought it was healing that she allowed herself to sleep in the comfortable bed at the end. It symbolized that she had started to forgive herself.
Nine Perfect Strangers Season 2 Episode 3 Needed to Balance Levity and Severity Better
Nine Perfect Strangers is known for balancing serious issues and campy humor.
This episode felt awkward and jolting, going back and forth between Agnes’s memories and grief and Imogen’s hilarious hallucination of her and Peter as Heidi and Peter living in the Swiss Alps.
I love Imogen and Peter’s chemistry and banter, and that hallucination of them worked because it was cute, and Peter felt like his father was often absent.

It just felt misplaced playing something so romantic and entertaining after showing Agnes melting down about a miscarriage.
While I think there should be a balance, the scenes could have been better edited. I also miss the campiness of the first season.
Martin Learned the Consequences of Handling the Guests Alone
I still don’t understand Helena’s loyalty to Masha, except that she probably felt compassion for her daughter’s death. However, Masha seems devoted to fixing broken people, but only with her agenda.
That seemed to aggravate Martin, especially when Masha messed with the guests’ doses or without their permission.
Even though Masha brought guests there without Helena’s permission, Helena still insisted Martin work with Masha. What kind of family loyalty is that?
I almost wondered if Helena was deathly ill after that coughing fit, and she was trying to decide who to leave the resort with.
Masha doesn’t seem nearly as involved in the business as she was in Nine Perfect Strangers Season 1, which means Martin had to clean up the mess.
When Tina reacted badly to the drugs initially, and Agnes tried to help, and then they both started screaming, I wondered if something about Tina’s situation triggered Agnes.
He tried to be there for everyone, but Agnes got away and melted down in grief and guilt. He felt awful because it happened on his watch, and Masha had become more selfish, only looking out for David.
This will make the rift even colder since Martin is a protocol stickler.
Masha and David Played Mind Games, But Did Either Come Out Ahead
While we don’t understand David and Masha’s relationship, they preferred being in charge, and neither liked losing.
That was evident because any time Masha issued a challenge, no matter how crazy, David agreed. I assume he didn’t want her to think he was weak.
There was some truth to the fact that swimming in a cold pool has some health benefits, but I’m not jumping in one in the dead of winter, no matter how pretty it looks.
David must like crazy and beautiful women since he’s known Masha for 20 years, and accused her of killing him, yet still seemed fond of her.
Masha was predictable, but good at mind games. I predicted she would put him in Peter’s room, making for an awkward reunion.
While Masha enjoys manipulating people, she would give anything to have Tatiana back, so she prides herself on mending fences between parents and children, whether they appreciate it or not.
