(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 28 – Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani on Wednesday said a Council of Europe panel alleging racism by Italian police had issued “obscure and false observations”.
The observations against our police are so obscure that if they were not offensive they would be ridiculous. They should be rejected by the sender”, Tajani commented on what was said by Bertil Cottier, the president of the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance of the Council of Europe (ECRI).
The report “was written by someone who does not know the reality, because the Italian police and the Italian police forces are the most respectful of minorities – added the leader of Forza Italia (FI) before the national secretariat of his centre-right post Berlusconi party.
“Therefore, statements like those risk fomenting hatred towards the police, which is absolutely unnecessary. What is written is false”. (ANSA).
