Old Farmer’s Almanac Reveals Summer 2025 Forecast

As outdoor enthusiasts begin thinking ahead to summer, the Old Farmer’s Almanac has released its 2025 predictions, and the forecast points to a notably hot summer across most of the United States.

According to the 2025 edition of the Old Farmer’s Almanac, the coming summer is “shaping up to be a doozy.” The pattern is expected to develop gradually, with June temperatures likely remaining near normal in most regions. However, July and August will bring significantly above-normal temperatures across nearly all regions, with only a few exceptions.

Regional Breakdown: Temperature Outlook

While most of the country will experience higher-than-normal temperatures, the forecast varies by region:

  • Texas and Oklahoma: Residents here face the warmest forecast, with temperatures potentially climbing to 4°F above normal. These states should prepare for potentially significant heat waves.
  • The Heartland: Iowa, Missouri, and parts of Kansas and Nebraska can expect temperatures approximately 4°F higher than average, coupled with lower-than-normal rainfall—a combination that farmers will need to monitor closely.
  • The Deep South: States including Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee will experience “significantly warmer conditions” according to the Almanac.
  • Desert Southwest: Already known for hot summers, this region will see even more intense heat than usual.

Moderate Conditions

Not all regions will experience the same level of heat. A few areas might offer more comfortable conditions:

  • The Pacific Northwest: This region stands as one of the exceptions to the nationwide heat trend, with more moderate temperatures predicted. Consider exploring the hiking trails of Washington and Oregon for summer adventures.
  • Southern Florida: While most of Florida will be hot, the southern portion of the state may experience cooler-than-normal conditions, thanks to increased rainfall and cloud cover.
  • Canada: Our northern neighbors will generally experience cooler-than-average temperatures across the southern tier of provinces, with the exception of southernmost Ontario. Canadian national parks could be excellent destinations for summer 2025.

Precipitation Outlook

The rainfall predictions for summer 2025 show less dramatic variation than the temperature forecast. While much of the country will see near to slightly below-normal precipitation, the driest conditions are expected across Texas, Oklahoma, and the Great Plains.

Some regions will see increased rainfall:

  • Great Lakes Region: States south of the Great Lakes, including Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, and Ohio, can expect above-normal rainfall. Great Lakes water activities might be affected by more frequent storms.
  • New England: Northern and central portions should prepare for wetter-than-usual conditions. Check out these rainy day hiking tips if you’re planning adventures in this region.
  • Southern Florida: Higher-than-normal precipitation is forecast here, which could lead to an increased chance of storms during hurricane season. Monitor weather updates if planning coastal activities.

As we approach summer 2025, outdoor enthusiasts would be wise to prepare accordingly, with plenty of sunscreen, extra water, and perhaps a good cooling towel or two. After all, being prepared is essential for enjoying outdoor adventures safely and comfortably.
