Panasonic Avionics and Intellian developed a new next generation in flight connectivity terminal for airlines which is in an exclusive partnership… The partner terminal provides efficient and astonishing, speedy, reliable internet, while remaining low weight and cost effective, along with quick setup, revolutionizing both passenger experience and operational effectiveness.

Panasonic Avionics Corporation, a global leader in in-flight engagement and connectivity solutions, and Intellian Technologies, a renowned provider of satellite communication antennas and ground systems, have launched a state-of-the-art low earth orbit (LEO)-only terminal system designed to operate on Eutelsat’s OneWeb LEO network. This innovative system delivers high-speed connectivity while maintaining cost efficiency, lightweight construction, and ease of installation.

The new terminal integrates Intellian’s advanced LEO-only aviation antenna with the modem and controller in a compact, radome-free design. The system leverages cutting-edge Electronically Steered Array (ESA) technology, offering a balance of high performance, low weight, and streamlined installation. Its design minimizes aircraft downtime and enables overnight retrofit installations, allowing airlines to upgrade connectivity capabilities without disrupting operations.

This LEO-only terminal provides data speeds of up to 195 Mbps and latency below 100 milliseconds, ensuring a reliable and fast in-flight internet experience for passengers and crew. Its modular structure allows easy upgrades of core components, ensuring compatibility with future network improvements and hardware enhancements. Airlines can deploy the terminal alongside existing multi-orbit systems, creating flexible solutions that adapt to various operational needs and route networks.

The terminal complements Panasonic Avionics’ existing multi-orbit antenna portfolio, reinforcing the company’s commitment to network-agnostic in-flight connectivity solutions. Airlines can implement a multi-terminal strategy to combine LEO and GEO capabilities, optimizing coverage, redundancy, and overall connectivity performance. The system is designed to support multi-constellation operation, offering operational flexibility for carriers looking to enhance passenger experience and reduce service gaps.

With a weight less than half that of traditional GEO or multi-orbit terminals, the LEO-only system contributes to airline sustainability initiatives by lowering fuel consumption and associated carbon emissions. Its efficient design supports reduced operational costs, faster installation, and a simplified maintenance process, providing airlines with a high-value connectivity solution.

The terminal system also integrates seamlessly with Panasonic Avionics’ digital platform, enabling self-service management of in-flight connectivity. Airlines can monitor and optimize connectivity usage, streamline service adoption, and incorporate advertising and premium services. The solution can enhance passenger amenities by enabling complimentary Wi-Fi offerings, while simultaneously reducing operational costs associated with connectivity management.

Scheduled for availability in late 2026, the LEO-only terminal is suitable for both retrofit installations on existing aircraft and integration into new fleets. Its lightweight, modular design ensures future-proofing for technological upgrades and multi-orbit compatibility, offering airlines a scalable approach to in-flight connectivity.

The combined solution from Panasonic Avionics and Intellian represents a new era in aviation connectivity, merging advanced antenna technology with high-speed LEO network performance. The terminal enables airlines to provide consistent, reliable, and fast connectivity while supporting sustainability objectives and reducing operational complexity. Its innovative design and flexible deployment options are expected to redefine passenger experience, drive operational efficiency, and create new revenue opportunities in the in-flight connectivity sector.

The launch of Panasonic Avionics’ new LEO-only in-flight connectivity terminal, developed in partnership with Intellian, marks a major advancement in airline travel technology. By combining high-speed Wi-Fi, low latency, lightweight design, and modular upgrades, the terminal offers airlines a cost-effective, reliable, and future-proof solution to enhance passenger experience and operational efficiency. With its multi-orbit compatibility, rapid installation, and sustainable design, this innovation sets a new benchmark for in-flight connectivity, ensuring travelers enjoy seamless, high-quality internet access while airlines benefit from increased satisfaction, loyalty, and revenue opportunities.
