Paolini delighted with ‘perfect’ Italian Open

(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 19 – Jasmine Paolini has expressed her delight at winning the Italian Open women’s doubles with her partner Sara Errani on Sunday a day after becoming only the second woman in the open era to take the singles title in Rome.
The feat means she is the first woman to win the doubles and singles at the Rome tournament since Monica Seles in 1990 and the first at any WTA 1000 championship since Vera Zvonareva at Indian Wells in 2009.
“It’s amazing,” Paolini, 29, said after she and Errani came back from 4-0 down in each set to beat Veronika Kudermetova and Elise Mertens 6-4, 7-5 and retain the title they also won in 2024.
“It’s been two amazing weeks, incredible. I don’t know what to say. It’s just perfect, you know?”.
Paolini’s 6-4 6-2 victory over Coco Gauff on Saturday made her the first Italian to win the women’s singles in Rome since Raffaella Reggi in 1985. (ANSA).
