PNA working to arrange meeting with pope

(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 22 – The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) is seeking to arrange a meeting with Pope Leo XIV, its number two, Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh, said in an interview published in Italian Catholic newspaper Avvenire on Thursday. “We are working to meet him soon,” al-Sheikh said.
The American pontiff said he was pained by the situation in Gaza and called for aid to be allowed into the Strip in his first general audience in Saint Peter’s Square on Wednesday.
“We are grateful for his words and for the Church’s commitment,” al-Sheikh said.
“I do not look at things from an ideological perspective. I have nothing against Jews, but I have the right and the duty to criticise Israel’s policies.
“Just as we must work to protect the presence of Christians and also encourage the return to these places of the Christians who have emigrated”. (ANSA).
