(see related) (ANSA) – ROME, MAR 3 – The situation regarding the bilateral pneumonia Pope Francis is being treated for at Rome’s Gemelli hospital is “stable”, Vatican sources said on Monday.
The sources said that, in the last few days, the condition has had “a natural evolution for a person undergoing therapy”.
The 88-year-old Argentine pontiff, who has been in hospital since February 14, on Monday “woke up, had breakfast and began the day’s therapies”, the sources said.
Earlier on Monday the Vatican Press Office said the pope slept well throughout the night.
The sources said the fact that the pontiff “rested well” suggests that, as was the case on Sunday, he is not undergoing mechanical ventilation, and that oxygen is being administered through nasal cannulae.
In its latest medical update on the pope’s condition on Sunday, the Vatican said his condition was stable.
It said there have been no direct consequences from the respiratory attack he suffered on Friday. (ANSA).
