(ANSA) – VIENNA, 04 GIU – On 3 June, the prestigious setting of Palazzo Metternich, seat of the Italian Embassy in Vienna, hosted the celebrations in Austria for the 79th anniversary of the founding of the Italian Republic. The ceremony was presided over by the Ambassador of Italy in Vienna, Giovanni Pugliese, by the Permanent Representative to International Organisations in Vienna, Debora Lepre, and by the Permanent Representative to the OSCE, Andrea Cascone. Particularly significant was the presence of the President of the Austrian Parliament, Walter Rosenkranz, whose speech underlined the excellent state of relations between Italy and Austria, based on constant dialogue and deep cooperation also in the multilateral sphere.
This year marks the 70th anniversary of Italy’s entry into the United Nations and the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Helsinki Final Act: important anniversaries that testify to Italy’s strong commitment to effective multilateralism in favour of peace, international security, sustainable development and respect for human rights.
The guest of honour at the event was the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, an area that combines natural beauty, a rich cultural heritage and an excellent food and wine scene, which has been a favourite destination for Austrian tourism in Italy for years. The Region was represented by the Councillor for Productive Activities and Tourism, Sergio Bini. Guests had the opportunity to appreciate the refined creations of the Michelin-starred restaurant Osteria Altran, which was able to tell the richness and identity of the Friuli region through its flavours.
A special moment was dedicated to the XXV Winter Olympic Games in Milan Cortina 2026, an event of international scope that represents an extraordinary showcase for Sistema Italia and an important opportunity for cooperation with Alpine countries, including Austria. The participation of Valentina Marchei, Olympic figure-skating athlete and Head of Ambassador Programme of the Games, allowed to highlight fundamental values such as hospitality, inclusion and respect for the Olympic spirit. For Austria, the President of the Austrian Olympic Committee, Karl Stoss, also attended the event.
The guests were also able to appreciate the exhibition dedicated to ‘Cooperation in the fight against transnational organised crime’, which was opened last October in Vienna by Justice Minister Nordio. An exhibition of Alessi objects created by Austrian designers was also shown in the rooms of the Metternich Palace. Major Italian brands such as Artemide and Natuzzi presented their most iconic objects at the Embassy. In the Embassy’s inner courtyards, guests admired the best of the Italian automotive industry thanks to displays of Ferrari and Fiat cars as well as several Vespa motorbike models.
