Pan-Indian writer and director, Sandeep Reddy Vanga became popular for his very controversial romantic drama film, Arjun Reddy and its Hindi remake, Kabir Singh. Despite the criticisms of these films regarding the depiction of violence, coarse language, and the treatment of female characters, the director upped the ante and made the film Animal. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, this film depicted every criticism received by his previous film but multiplied by ten.
Due to its depiction of violence, nudity and use of cuss words, Animal received an A (Adults only) certificate from the censor board. However, the director made an edited version of the film just for his seven-year-old son. Sandeep Vanga also revealed the feedback that he got from his wife on the film. Sandeep Reddy Vanga became a sensation overnight with his directorial debut film, Arjun Reddy. He later remade the Telugu language film in Hindi, called Kabir Singh, which marked his foray into Bollywood. Owing to the success he received from his debut film, the director named his son, Arjun Reddy as well. In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Vanga revealed that his 7-year-old son was too little to understand hits and superhits, but was aware of his father’s film, Animal. In fact, Arjun has also seen an age-appropriate version of the film with all the A-rated scenes cut out. Talking about this edited version of the film, Sandeep Vanga stated:
