Santo Domingo, the Embassy celebrates Republic Day

(ANSA) – SANTO DOMINGO, 05 GIU – The Italian Embassy in the Dominican Republic celebrated the 79th anniversary of the proclamation of the Italian Republic with a gala reception at the Kimpton Hotel – Las Mercedes, located in the heart of the Colonial City of the capital Santo Domingo. The event was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs Roberto Álvarez, and Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs Francisco Caraballo and Hugo Francisco Rivera, among other authorities from the Caribbean country.
In his welcome address, the Italian Ambassador, Stefano Queirolo Palmas, emphasised the strong and growing ties between Italy and the Dominican Republic, highlighting both the current areas of cooperation and the deep historical roots that sustain this relationship. The ambassador also praised the contribution of the active Italian community residing in the country and the significant Dominican diaspora in Italy, currently the third largest in the world.
During the reception, an honour was presented to Major General Carlos Febrillet Rodríguez, Deputy Minister of Aerospace Affairs, who was awarded the Order of the Star of Italy. This award recognises his key role in strengthening bilateral security and defence cooperation, exemplified by the acquisition of four AW169 helicopters and the collaboration with the Italian company Flying Legend for the delivery and assembly in the Dominican Republic of the TP-75 ‘Dulus’ aircraft.
Gabriella Reginato acted as mistress of ceremonies, while audiovisual content illustrating the successes and lesser-known aspects of Italian excellence was projected continuously on the hall’s giant screen. The audience included high civil and military authorities, personalities from the private sector, the Dominican cultural and academic world, and numerous representatives of the local Italian community. The ceremony was also attended by most of the diplomatic corps accredited to the country, including the Heads of Mission of the embassies of France, Germany, Canada, China, Turkey, Brazil, Argentina, Chile and the European Union.
At the entrance to the hotel, participants were greeted by a display of one of the latest Ducati models, an icon of Italian design and engineering. The set-up was by the Escobar company, while the buffet was prepared by chef Cosimo Urso. The spaces dedicated to the Aperol and Barcelò brands registered an excellent turnout, as did the fourth edition of the contemporary art exhibition ‘Caribe en Residencia’, whose works will remain on display for a year at the Residenza di Italia.
The celebrations were made possible thanks to the generous support of several sponsors close to the Italian community. Among them are Acea International, Alma Viva, Altus Motors, Banco de Reservas, Campagna Ricart & Asociados, St. Regis Cap Cana, Domicicar. Regis Cap Cana, Domicem SA, Dussich Services SRL, El Catador, Grupo Bocel, Grupo Carol SAS, Grupo Punta Cana, GRX Dominicana, IBC Shipyard, Fundación Inicia, Isla de Sabores, Santo Domingo Motors Company SA, Viva International SA, Inversiones Ocho Rios, Alvarez Sanchez, Barcelò and Multiquimica.
